In November 2006, Morrison visited the Louvre Museum in Paris, France as the second in its “Grand Invité” program to guest-curate a month-long series of events across the arts on the theme of “The Foreigner’s Home.” Inspired by her curatorship, Morrison returned to Princeton University in Fall 2008 to lead a small seminar, also entitled “The Foreigner’s Home.”

“Who is the foreigner?” is a question that leads us to the perception of an implicit and heightened threat…. “Am I the foreigner in my own home?” It may be that the most defining characteristic of our times is that…walls and weapons feature as prominently now as they once did, in Medieval times….Foreign…is the “not us,” the rupture between self and society. —Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison, “The Foreigner’s Home” Louvre, Paris 2006”

Harold Ford Morrison, the eldest son of Toni Morrison, is an Architect. Ms. Morrison’s second son, Slade Kevin Morrison, was an artist and children’s book author; he passed away December 22, 2010 at the age of 45 of cancer.
