Danielle Brooks will leave Broadway’s The Color Purple on November 13, 2016.

Carrie Compere will assume the role of Sofia in the Tony Award winning Broadway revival of The Color Purple on Tuesday, November 15th. She replaces Tony Award nominee Danielle Brooks, who will play her final performance on Sunday, November 13th. Compere, a longtime ensemble member of the production, opened the show as one of the Church Ladies. She joins a principal cast that also includes Tony winners Cynthia Erivo as Celie and Jennifer Holliday as Shug Avery, as well as Isaiah Johnson as Mister, Jennie Harney as Nettie, and Kyle Scatliffe as Harpo. The Color Purple, which opened on December 10, 2015, is adapted from the novel of the same name by Alice Walker. The musical features a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray.

The company of The Color Purple also includes Phoenix Best, Dwayne Clark, Lawrence Clayton, Patrice Covington, J. Daughtry, Adrianna Hicks, Bre Jackson, Grasan Kingsberry, Kevin Mambo, Ken Robinson, Antoine L. Smith, Carla R. Stewart, Akron Watson, and Rema Webb. —Source TheaterMania
