Nathaniel Stampley coming to Broadway’s Tony Award winner The Color Purple by Photojournalist Lisa Pacino
Broadway veteran Nathaniel Stampley will take over the role of Mister in John Doyle’s Tony Award-winning production of The Color Purple on Broadway beginning November 15, 2016 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, New York.

Isaiah Johnson, who originated the role in this production, will give his final performance November 13th. Stampley performed in the original 2005 production of the musical. He has also performed on Broadway in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess and The Lion King. He also appeared in Big Love (Signature Theatre), City Center’s Encores! Fiorello! and Lost in the Stars, First Noel (Classical Theatre of Harlem), Man of La Mancha (Jeff Award, Marriott Theatre), and The Apple Tree Theatre’s Violet and Big River(Jeff Award nomination). He is a graduate of UW-Madison and a Ten Chimneys Fellow. Johnson is one of several new cast members for the revival, which reaches its first anniversary on Broadway December 10. Carrie Compere, one of the original Church Ladies in the production, will step into the role of Sofia starting with the November 15 performance. Tony winner Jennifer Holliday recently joined the cast as Shug Avery. They will appear opposite Cynthia Erivo, who won the Tony Award for her performance as Celie. —Source Playbill
