August Wilson’s JITNEY Will Finally Arrive on Broadway by Photojournalist Lisa Pacino
August Wilson’s Jitney is coming to Broadway starring Brandon J. Dirden, John Douglas Thompson, Anthony Chisholm, and Harvy Blanks.

The full casting has been announced for Manhattan Theatre Club’s Broadway debut of August Wilson’s Jitney, directed by Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson (The Piano Lesson & Seven Guitars). Jitney, the only drama of Wilson’s American Century Cycle that has never been seen on Broadway, will play at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, New York with previews beginning December 28, 2016 and opening night set for January 19, 2017.
Jitney is the only work in Wilson’s 10-play Pittsburgh Cycle that hasn’t yet played Broadway. It premiered in Pittsburgh in 1982, and arrived in New York (in a revised version) at Signature Theater in 2000.
The ensemble will feature Harvy Blanks (Jitney in WNYC’s Greene Space American Century Cycle recording) as Shealy, John Douglas Thompson (A Time to Kill & Off-Broadway’s Satchmo at the Waldorf) as Becker, Brandon J. Dirden (All the Way & Clybourne Park) as Booster, Anthony Chisholm (Radio Golf & HBO’s OZ) as Fielding , André Holland (Joe Turner’s Come and Gone & films Selma and 42) as Youngblood, Carra Patterson (Wit) as Rena, Michael Potts (The Book of Mormon) as Turnbo, Keith Randolph Smith (American Psycho) as Doub, and Ray Anthony Thomas (The Crucible) as Philmore.
The creative team for Jitney includes David Gallo (scenic design), Toni-Leslie James (costume design), Jane Cox (lighting design), Darron L. West (sound design), Bill Sims, Jr. (original music), and Thomas Schall (fight director).
The Manhattan Theater Club’s Broadway production will be Co-Produced by Grammy and Academy Award winning singer, songwriter, and musician John Legend. —Sources Variety & TheaterMania
