Ten-Time Grammy Award Winner CHAKA KHAN (born Yvette Marie Stevens; March 23, 1953, Chicago, Illinois) is a singer and songwriter who began her career in 1972 as the lead singer of the funk band Rufus; in 1973, they released their self-titled debut album, which earned her the name “Queen of Funk”. In 1978, Chaka released her solo debut album, which featured the crossover disco hit “I’m Every Woman”, written for her by songwriting duo Ashford & Simpson. The success of the single helped the album go platinum, selling over a million copies. She currently has 11 solo albums. Along with her 10 Grammy Awards, she has received countless awards & accolades, and in 2012 was inducted into the Soul Music Hall of Fame.
