Disney’s The Lion King Remake: Cast James Earl Jones Reprising Mufasa and Donald Glover as Simba 2017 by Photojournalist Lisa Pacino

Legend James Earl Jones who voiced Simba’s father Mufasa in the original Disney’s The Lion King will return to reprise the role, while Donald Glover the star of television’s new series Atlanta will play Simba in Disney’s live-action The Lion King remake directed by Jon Favreau.

James Earl Jones has been acting since 1953. He won the Tony Award and the Golden Globe Award for his performance as a boxer in The Great White Hope in 1969. He also earned an Oscar nomination for the role. He won the Tony Award again in 1987 for originating the lead role in August Wilson’s Fences. He is a three-time Emmy Award winner, for performances in Heat Wave, Gabriel’s Fire, and Summer’s End. In addition to his extensive stage and film work he is familiar to the world for his voice roles as Darth Vader in the Star Wars films, and as Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King. James has received countless awards and accolades including a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, and an Honorary Academy Award.

Donald Glover is a Grammy Award nominated artist who recently won two Golden Globe Awards for the hit series Atlanta, and is currently playing young Lando Calrissian in the still-untitled upcoming Star Wars spin-off film centering on Han Solo.

Released in theaters in 1994, The Lion King was a smash hit receiving Academy Awards for the original song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” by Elton John and Tim Rice and original score by Hans Zimmer, as well as two Grammy Awards, with the soundtrack selling over 14 million copies. In 1997, the stage production The Lion King debuted on Broadway, earning six Tony Awards. The production continues to run and remains one of Broadway’s biggest hits alongside several other productions running around the world, including London, Hamburg, Tokyo, Madrid, Mexico City, Shanghai, and North America. Translated into eight different languages, its 23 global productions have been seen by more than 85 million people across every continent except Antarctica.
