Tony Award Winner Patina Miller of the Broadway revival of Pippin, along with Tony Award nominee Danielle Brooks of The Color Purple, Tony Award nominee Raúl Esparza, Tony Award nominee Judy Kuhn, Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan, George Takei, and more will pay tribute to Stephen Schwartz at a gala benefit for Classic Stage Company at Alice Tully Hall, New York, May 15, 2017. The Music of Stephen Schwartz performances will be directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, CSC’s artistic director.

Stephen Schwartz is an American musical theatre lyricist and composer. In a career spanning over four decades, he has written such hit musicals as Godspell in 1971, Pippin in 1972, and Wicked in 2003. He has contributed lyrics for a number of successful films, including Pocahontas in 1995; The Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1996; The Prince of Egypt in 1998 (music and lyrics); and Enchanted in 2007. Schwartz has won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lyrics, three Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards and has been nominated for six Tony Awards. He received the 2015 Isabelle Stevenson Award, a special Tony Award, for his commitment to serving artists and fostering new talent.
