Roberta Peters was one of opera’s most beloved artists, an overnight star who graced the Met stage in leading roles for 35 years. This loving tribute to the life, work, and memory of the sensational and remarkable soprano, Roberta Peters, will feature rare video performances and reminiscences from Ms. Peters’ family and colleagues. The honored guests include Martina Arroyo, Nedda Casei, Loretta di Franco, Rosalind Elias, Sherrill Milnes, James Morris, Elinor Ross, George Shirley, and Teresa Stratas. A reception will follow the program.

Roberta Peters (May 4, 1930 – January 18, 2017) was a Jewish-American born in The Bronx, New York. She was a coloratura soprano. One of the most prominent American singers to achieve lasting fame and success in opera, Peters is noted for her 35-year association with the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York. She was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1998. Peters debuted at the Met on November 17, 1950 with her farewell performance in 1985, the same year as Leontyne Price. Later in her career she added operetta and musical theater to her repertoire, appearing in The Merry Widow, and The King and I.
